My oldest child attended 2 years of MOCA at the Richland facility and my son attended 1. At the beginning of the year my son had an incredibly hard time with separation anxiety in which they were more than accomodating and stayed in constant communication with me throughout the course of the week even by phone during the day to let me know that he was having a hard time and what action they were taking to help him cope and what seemed to work the best so I could help implement certain things to make the transition as smooth as possible as well as provide consistency. This school year due to me needing to move closer work he had to transfer to the facility in Waynesville, I was having car trouble at the beginning of the year and to avoid having to pull my child from the program Angelica went above and beyond to help me get him to and from school... At that time he was attending half days, however he recently switched to the full day class due to a position change at work. With the full day class there is a 35 dollar copay for the after school care. Before Ingo any further. Please understand that none of this is about the money.... Last Monday when I arrived to pick my son up his teachers explained to me that around mid morning he appeared to not be feeling well and wasn't participating in the activities the way he normally does, that he slept through most of lunch and could barely hold his eyes open the rest of the day... As they are explaining this to me I'm wondering why I was never called to come get my child and I was also looking around assuming he was laying down somewhere. I then see him walk through the door that leads to outside with his coat unzipped and his hood not pulled up on a day that was cold and windy. I didn't address the issue at this time because I have to be right back to work shortly after picking my kids up from school. I did not bother paying the co pay that day after hearing of this because include tell by looking at him it was unlikely he would be attending the next day... He ended up having a double ear infection and a virus which caused him to miss the rest of the week. Lucky for me and his sister we were also blessed with the same virus. Needless to say I was unable to get to the school at any time to pay the 35 dollars... This Monday I called to inform them we were running behind as I was still quite ill and had worked 32 hours in 2 days and had minimal sleep. Ann. Who is the supervisor of MOCA here in waynesville is who I had the pleasure of speaking with. She quickly reminds me that I failed to pay the copay last week and since that was the case even though I will be paying the co pay this week I still had to pick my child up at noon even though I was scheduled to work that day. I explain the above health issues that had us all unable to leave the house for days other than my obligation to work which I cannot miss.... She very unapologetically proceeds to explain the policy to me but not once asked if my family or even my child whom of which I leave in her care for 8 hours a day is feeling any better. I then again tried to explain in different words that other than Monday we didn't go anywhere. I then brought up the situation With my child and what was told to me when I picked him up. I did no do this to defer away from the copay subject I just had not had a chance up until then to address it and the only motive I had was to let them know that I would like a phone call in the future of you there is a noticble difference in him of ANY kind whether he is running a fever or vomiting or not... I need to be notified and then I need to make the decision as to whether he will stay or not... When I stopped talking there was a brief pause in the conversation and then I hear "um... Ok... So what about the copay" I responded with saying that I wasn't trying to avoid the part about the copay but if we are going to talk about the copay then we need to understand that the copay is paying for the care that I do not feel is being adequately provided for my child.
